The Surgical Audio Guidance (SURAG) concept developed by the INKA research team received two prices at the Society of Medical Innovation and Technology (SMIT) Conference in Heilbronn, Germany. The work entitled “Surgical Audio Guidance SurAG: novel non-invasive proximally acquired information on tip-tissue interactions” was honored with the MITAT (Minimally Invasive Therapy & Allied Technologies) Best Paper award. This work presented a summary of the SURAG concept and the proof-of-principle for guiding different medical interventional devices such as needles, guide wires, and laparoscopic tools. A second work entitled “Audio as a means for tissue differentiation in robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery?”, which presented the specific application of SURAG in robotic-assisted surgery, received the 2nd Poster award. Both works were presented by Dr. Alfredo Illanes.
